We will buy anything that is silver! All hallmarked, foreign and craft silver is happily purchased.

If your items are of foreign origin, or bear no marks, we are able to provide a free testing service to determine the fineness of your silver.

Here are just a few examples of what silver we buy:

*Scrap Coins (We will tell you if your coins are more collectable, and will pay accordingly) *Bars *Jewellery *Cutlery *Teapots & Teasets *Trays *Trophies *Tableware and Trinkets *Industrial silver

Before visiting us, or posting your silver to us, it maybe best to see if your items bear any hallmarks similar to the ones shown above.

Please note, silver plated items are different to silver items. Any pieces marked ‘EPNS’ and ‘Silver Plated’ are not solid silver, but only silver plated.

All precious metals are measured in TROY ounces. Unlike a IMPERIAL ounce, a Troy ounce contains 31.103 grams. An Imperial ounce contains only 28.35 grams . Please feel free to contact us if you need any advice, or further information.

We are always happy to help!

I would also like to add a small amount of text for trade sellers....

Trade is always welcome!

Do you buy scrap silver on a regular basis? If so, we are always happy to deal with new trade customers.

Please feel free to get in contact with us for more information.

Silver Hallmarks

These marks on silver show that the silver you have is British silver. However just because your item does not carry this mark does not indicate that it is not silver and you should look for one of the marks as shown below.

silver hallmarks v2

The marks above indicate that the item is silver and shows the percentage of silver in each item, i.e. 800 = 80%, 925 = 92.5%, 958 = 95.8% and 999 = 99.9%. Most UK silver tends to be Sterling Silver (925) whereas most 800 silver comes from Europe as a whole.

Hallmarksv3

If the item is Sterling Silver it may carry one of the marks as shown above. Each of these indicate the item is, indeed, made from Sterling Silver but furthermore it indicates it's point of origin.

‘THE AUCTION WAY ISN’T ALWAYS THE BEST WAY….

With precious metal prices still at an historical high, sending your silver items to auction, or to an antiques dealer may not be the best route.

A large number of items, such as various silver cutlery, teapots, trays etc are now worth more in ‘metal’ than as commercial pieces. This is a sad fact, but with modern day life, and changes in fashion, most people have no use for these items. Furthermore, people can no longer afford to eat daily meals from a cutlery set now worth a few thousand pounds in silver!

We purchase quantities of silver obtained from the saleroom. It is dreadful to think people who consign their silver to auction often come out with less than half of the silver price, the price we would pay! For example, a teapot worth £300 in silver goes to auction. The person bidding on the piece intends to sell for its metal price, therefore may pay around £280. Auction houses charge buyers a premium on top of the hammer price (Usually around 20%). The bidder has to build this premium into the price he/she wants to pay, so will bid around £220. If the piece sells for this price, the vendor will have to pay a vendors fee to the auction house for selling (Again around 20%). Therefore, the vendor would get a net payment of around £170, nearly half the price we would have paid! If sold to us, the vendor would not have to wait for the item to sell, or wait for payment!
